So here’s how to use these the official boot.img files that I made, without having to rebuild the whole ROM. This can be done on the following devices:

Sony Xperia C
Samsung Galaxy Grand (2011)
Samsung Nexus 7 (2013)
Google Nexus 7 (2013)
Google Nexus 10
Google Nexus 5X

Simply flash them in recovery and you will be back to your original stock ROM (no need to root. Just make sure that you don’t disable any partitions during this process.

Download factory images from Sony Xperia C, Samsung Galaxy Grand (2011), Samsung Nexus 7 (2013), Google Nexus 7 (2013), Google Nexus 10, Google Nexus 5X, and Google Nexus 9
Reboot your device into recovery (device must be wiped prior to flashing the above images)
Disable the USB connection
Perform an OTA update to the aforementioned image.
Reboot your device and select ‘Install zip from sdcard’ from recovery
Flash the above boot.img using the following steps:

Go to /sdcard/ folder on your phone/tablet
Download the files from step 1
Flash boot.img using fastboot (using kernel in step 1)
Reboot your device into recovery and select ‘Install zip from sdcard’ again
Flash the above boot.img again
Reboot your device

A few tips for the original stock image:
